Rayz ice game in third period
The Rayz, in the venue where they had won only five times in 30 previous visits, delivered a statement that couldn't be much louder, handing the Laredo Bucks a 6-1 whipping on Wednesday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The victory was the most lopsided for the Rayz against the Bucks in the teams' five-season rivalry. More importantly, Corpus Christi (27-17-5, 59 points) drew within two points of Laredo (28-13-5, 61) for first place in the Central Hockey League's Southeast Division and Southern Conference. "It's huge for us to come in here and win twice," Rayz coach Ken McRae said after his team followed up Sunday's 3-1 victory at the LEC and won for the 12th time in the past 15 games. "There's no doubt about it. You look at the calendar, and you don't mark down two wins in this building.

Dinosaur Jr. to Film Live DVD
So you thought the glory had ended. With the reissues lauded and the reunion tour a revelation for those still sucking their thumbs in the 80s, it seemed Dinosaur Jr. might be content to call it a day before they start inflicting bodily harm on each other. But it looks like J Mascis and Lou Barlow are still getting along well enough, because the band has announced four more live dates, in Chicago and New York. This will be the first time the Dinosaur Jr. reunion train will have stopped at indoor venues in these cities, since the band played open-air shows this summer. Remember: no roof, no rock. The two NYC performances will be recorded for subsequent release on DVD. Apparently, the taciturn, allegedly passive-aggressive Mascis has not alienated his family either, because the DVD will be directed by Gold in Berlin, a company run by Mascis' brother-in-law Phillip Virus.

Celebs Must Broaden Their Vocabularies
The symbolic ban on the "n-word" has been passed, making it symbolically illegal to use the racial slur, though no penalties will follow if one should break this symbolic law. The City Council was unanimous in the move, which is aimed particularly at discouraging teens who may casually utter the term. But supporters of the symbolic moratorium are also requesting that celebrities eliminate the word from their vocabularies. The Recording Academy has been asked not to nominate musicians for Grammy awards if they use the word in their lyrics. But a Grammy spokesman said he doubted that the academy's voters would support censoring artists. Councilman Leroy Comrie has asked TV network Black Entertainment Television not to allow the use of the word in its shows. It has yet to be announced what word the station would condone instead.
