West Point Military Academy turns Belizean young woman into soldier

Meet Cadet Justine Swift. She is a 20-year-old student, attending the West Point Military Academy, in West Point New York (50 miles north of New York City.)

Originally from Bomba Village in the Belize Rural North, Swift grew up in Belize surrounded by 6 siblings.

Village life was slow and did not offer much in line of entertainment or opportunities. But that didnt bother her. With five brothers and a sister, home was an interesting place to be.

She attended primary school and then moved on to Stann-Creek Ecumenical High School. Not quite satisfied, she decided to pursue a Bachelors Degree at the University of Belize.

Her plan was to graduate and find a job like everyone else in her family had done, and then settle down.

Then out of the blue, an opportunity to attend West Point Academy came up.

Gaylord, Music City Center reps tell lawmakers they’re united

Representatives from Gaylord Entertainment and the Music City Center Coalition both stressed their cohesion in backing each other's convention center plans Thursday to an important group of state lawmakers.

At a meeting Thursday with legislators from Davidson County — many of which are trying to juggle the competing interests of both parties — supporters of both planned convention centers pitched the bills necessary to fund the projects.

The Music City Center Coalition wants to build a $455 million convention center downtown.

Gaylord has plans to build a $400 million expansion to its existing Opryland Resort and Convention Center complex, including adding more convention space and a stand-alone hotel.

Ralph Schultz, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce's president and CEO and a main proponent of a new downtown convention center, said both proposed facilities are “so important to each other in harmony" because they cater to two different marketplaces.

Love saga provides political respite

Manila: A television love triangle between a professional basketball player, his celebrity wife and a pretty nurse, is providing an entertaining alternative for Filipinos bored with endless political campaigning.

Actress and game show host Kris Aquino has admitted that she has been severely affected by the running scandal between her husband James Yap's alleged involvement with another woman, a certain Hope Centeno, a nurse at a popular skin clinic which the actress' spouse allegedly frequents.

"What hurts me most is that now I am the one who has to face the people and explain everything," Kris tearfully said in Tagalog in an interview published by the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) website.

Near miscarriage

Kris, the daughter of former president Corazon Aquino, is seven months pregnant with her baby by Yap.
