New movie theater will open at Valley River Center offering deals ...

A brand new Eugene movie theater opens its doors next week; one that won't force students to enter a shocking state of 1990s flashback at Gateway Mall.

The theater, Regal Cinemas Valley River Center Stadium 15, officially opens Friday, March 9, but beginning Monday the entertainment giant will offer movies, popcorn and soft drinks, which typically total nearly $15, for only $1 each, according to Regal Entertainment Group's press release.

Though most the $1 films have already trickled to Springfield's $1.50 theater, moviegoers can enjoy state-of-the-art stadium seating with comfy chairs and 54-feet-wide screens.

Monday thru Wednesday the theater, located in Valley River Center near retailers Zumiez and Torrid, will screen hit films "Happy Feet," "The Prestige," "The Devil Wears Prada" and "The Pursuit of Happiness," among others.

The Park at MOA to become world's first Nickelodeon theme park

Mall of America and Nickelodeon announced a partnership today combining the country's largest shopping and entertainment destination with the number-one entertainment brand for kids. Under the new agreement, various Nickelodeon properties and characters will come to life in the first-ever Nickelodeon themed park, part of a re-branding of the Mall's seven-acre amusement park. Fresh designs and exciting new rides and attractions, inspired by Nickelodeon's popular shows and characters, are just a few of the anticipated changes.

Construction will begin after the architectural plans are complete, with the grand opening of the newly re-themed park anticipated in spring 2008. "Nickelodeon's family-friendly focused entertainment is a perfect fit for Mall of America, and we are thrilled about what this means for the Mall and Minnesota," said Maureen Bausch, vice president of business development for Mall of America.

Martial arts can help kids avoid school violence

Bullying is a huge problem in schools and martial arts provide the willpower to teach children to be more confident and to look a potential bully in the eye and identify their traits and avoid them. Confidence is a huge trait our children need to have in order to avoid peer pressure and to tell their friends no when it will involve a violent act or bullying. In addition, martial arts also teach self pride. If our children are proud of themselves they will not need to depend on someone else to make them feel good about themselves. In other words, they don't need to prove who they are to anyone. Being different is good and acceptable.

All of these life skills are important to learn and will form our children to become more productive citizens of Bermuda and turn away from violent, criminal behaviour.

Celebs Must Broaden Their Vocabularies

The symbolic ban on the "n-word" has been passed, making it symbolically illegal to use the racial slur, though no penalties will follow if one should break this symbolic law. The City Council was unanimous in the move, which is aimed particularly at discouraging teens who may casually utter the term. But supporters of the symbolic moratorium are also requesting that celebrities eliminate the word from their vocabularies. The Recording Academy has been asked not to nominate musicians for Grammy awards if they use the word in their lyrics. But a Grammy spokesman said he doubted that the academy's voters would support censoring artists. Councilman Leroy Comrie has asked TV network Black Entertainment Television not to allow the use of the word in its shows. It has yet to be announced what word the station would condone instead.
