Arts Diary

Tony Blair's imminent exit is worrying Rory Bremner. The impressionist and former NS columnist is concerned about the blandness of the pretenders to the political throne - particularly David Cameron. "My Cameron is still a work in progress - rather like the original," Rory tells me. "I won't perfect it until he does."

Still, Bremner, Bird and Fortune, which returns to Channel 4 this month, will continue to interest and annoy the powerful. Alastair Campbell once collared Rory to call Andrew Dunn (the actor who played him) a "fat bastard", telling the impressionist to "take note" of his weight losses and producing his exercise routine as proof.

Have we heard the last of Ned Sherrin on Radio 4's arts and entertainment show Loose Ends? A friend of his says the great presenter's vocal cords are so badly damaged that he confided in her: "My radio days are over." Let's hope not.

It's a fact: Pulp Fiction Theatre a night of fun

Hanging out in the basement and watching people make out seems so Midwestern, so That '70s Show. The harvest gold wall paint, low ceiling and Carter administration-era couches certainly give Boomtown Subterrannea a disco rec-room sort of feel, but Thursday night's Pulp Fiction Theatre dinner show is promoted as "Straight from the '30s!"

Drawing the Line1

Ingénieurs Sans Frontières mix pleasure and philanthropy tonight at La Tulipe (4530 Papineau, 7 p.m.), where they host a show jam-packed with local talent: Lyrical Assaults, Project SideFX, Name Withheld, Feed The Ghost and High John. The context is a massive national effort to raise awareness about extreme poverty, defined as people who live on less than $1 a day. All across the country, ISF members are distributing a flyer, Canada Horizon, dated 2025, when extreme poverty no longer exists; the flyer details the steps to take to make that scenario a reality.

Law students offer free council

Penn State law students trying to get practical experience in the field are now offering free services such as sports and entertainment contract advice to students.

The Arts, Sports, and Entertainment (ASE) Law Clinic aims to offer law students an opportunity to gain real world experience as well as provide free legal advice to students, said David Hoover, representative of the ASE Law Clinic and law student.

"We're happy to do what we can, especially with what you pay for a lawyer per hour," said Hoover, who made the move from Harrisburg to State College last fall when the law school began offering classes at University Park.

Looking to offer potential clients a comfortable environment to discuss their legal questions and issues, the ASE law clinic provides two types of information.
